The Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator is a nationally recognised and regulated half day course. Designed in line with Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) guidelines,1 it equips participants with the essential skills to perform CPR, safely use an AED, and respond to emergencies, including choking and cardiac arrest.

Course Content
- Recognising cardiac arrest and abnormal breathing (agonal)
- Alerting emergency services effectively
- High quality chest compressions and rescue breaths
- CPR for adults, children, and infants
- Recovery position for unresponsive casualties
- Safe use and operation of AEDs (including children)
- Choking interventions (back blows and abdominal thrusts)
- Procedures when emergency services arrive

Anyone trained in a Level 2 BLS & AED course can use an AED safely. Fully automatic AEDs guide the rescuer with spoken prompts.

Certification is valid for 1 year. Annual refresher training is recommended to maintain competence.
